Cleaning Service Recs Desperately Needed
Main Post:
Hi All, looking for recommendations for good cleaning services in DC.
We have a 3bd/2bath home, and previously used Fast Maids, who charged $220 for four hours for a deep clean. We were mostly happy with their services, but they do not work well with our pets.
Unfortunately, our elderly cat has recently started losing her bathroom manners, which causes our other two cats to wage chemical warfare in protest.
We clean up after them of course, but my spouse and I both work full time and provide all childcare for our infant, who arrived a few weeks early and didn't give us the chance to get the house in order, so we really don't have any time or bandwidth to do more. As a result things are piling up and we're struggling to just keep the place livable.
We need a deep, thorough clean from someone who won't be judgmental, is willing to work with clutter, and won't be put off by a place that's been savaged by angry felines. I understand that this won't be cheap, and am ok with that--all I'm concerned about is good work at a fair price commensurate with the job at hand.
Thank you in advance. These overwhelmed pet and tiny human parents are grateful for any and all leads.
Edit: We are looking both for an initial deep clean as well as maintenance once or twice a month afterward.

cleaning services in brooklyn?
Main Post:
I need recommendations. I have been putting off hiring a cleaner for months, but my apartment in Bed-Stuy is officially in crisis.
Work’s been nonstop, 2 hours overtime almost every other day, and every time I think I’ll finally get around to deep cleaning, I either crash or end up out with friends. I told myself I’ll do it one dirty corner at a time, but I think I’ve put it off for too long now and the thought of working through it all just overwhelms me.
Basically, I’m lookin for a cleaning service that actually does a thorough job. Need baseboards, floors, bathroom tiles, all of it cleaned out well because god knows I haven’t done any of it in a long while now. Last thing I want is to pay for a cleaner and still feel like there’s something missing.
How bad do I have it? I live in a one-bedroom, third-floor walk-up. Not a huge place, but somehow, dust piles up fast, and the kitchen looks like I actually cook in it (I dont really though, just use an airfryer).
Floors have long lost their shine and even I’m feeling kinda disgusted by the state of the place, bathroom grout lookin a little too gray, and I’ll just spare you the details about the living area. And I know I have something moldy somewhere from the smell of it. I cant really excuse myself out of this I know, I’ve just been in a long rut and I’m at a point where I feel if I dont do something it’ll just devolve into a full hoarder type situation.
I’d prefer if the cleaning service doesn’t use any strong chemicals etc which might leave a chemical smell. I get nauseous just by smelling bleach anything that would work around that would be perfect. Please help a guy unpigsty his place
Edit: Aight, I’m goin with Zesty. Seen enough good things about em, plus that re-clean guarantee sounds nice. Gonna book this week, will update if they live up to my expectations.

Where can I find a good cleaning service/lady to clean my home?
Main Post:
I’m not excited about using one of those big companies. I rather find someone through word-of-mouth, but I don’t know any recommendations. Where can I find someone good and reliable? I live in DTLA 2 bedroom +2 bathroom, about 1600 sqt
Any tips are welcome

Cleaning service - NOT from a large company
Main Post:
Hi all! I'd like to find a consistent cleaning service (twice a month?) that will come over to my 865sqft apartment and give it a good clean. I'm looking for a small, independent team, not a large company like MollyMaid.
MollyMaid consistently sends inexperienced crews that simply don't clean well. I'm not looking for a clean so incredible that the Queen of England can eat here. I just don't want to see dust bunnies still under my couch, splatter on my kitchen wall, etc. Every time any of those companies come over, I have to point out everything they missed before they leave. I want to find a cleaning team that I can trust, and will clean my apartment thoroughly.
I'm in Georgetown, anyone have a suggestion?
Top Comment: Reyna is FANTASTIC. Her number is 571.835.1078 and I cannot recommend her more highly. She usually comes with her daughter (and sometimes her daughter brings her daughter too who just plays on her iPad). Reyna has been cleaning my apartment for the last two years and is just exceptional. She comes every other week and just texts me and says "hey, I'll be coming on Monday if that works" and I confirm. She has a key and texts me when she is done. I venmo her the payment. She charges more for the first / initial cleaning and then less for follow up cleanings. I have asked her to do additional tasks while she is here and we've been able to negotiate fair rates (e.g., recently added laundry and occasionally ask her to clean out my refrigerator). Reyna's cleaning services are the best thing I pay for every month (honestly probably even better than therapy). I give her bonuses a couple times per year and fear the day she decides to get out of the business. Her English is not great (but we manage), nd she's incredibly kind and damn good at cleaning.
Is there a step-by-step guide for cleaning a home?
Main Post:
I know this seems crazy, but I feel like I have NO clue how to properly clean a home beyond wiping down countertops, toilet bowls, etc.
I'm looking for a step-by-step guide that tells you what supplies you need, then walks you through steps of cleaning a home, like 1) Start by dusting everything, 2) Vacuum the floors, 3) Mop... etc.
I feel very out of sorts and overwhelmed with all there is to clean..
THANK YOU!

What is the best cleaning tip you've ever received?

I'm a professional house cleaner and I clean a lot of rural homes. Whinks Rust Remover is the best product on the market for rust. Hands down. Also, skip the bottles of spray cleaner. Buy a bottle of concentrate (I use Meyer Clean Day), put a cap full in a spray bottle of water and go. It cleans mirrors, countertops, appliances, etc. Also spray it in your microwave, close the door and come back in 10 minutes. It'll wipe clean with no scrubbing.
If you have a specific problem you want help with, feel free to ask.
Edit: It's almost 3 and my alarm is going to go off at 6. I need sleep! If you have a question, I'll be back after work to answer more!
Professional housecleaners of reddit: What tips/tricks can I use to clean up my place quickly and thoroughly?
Main Post:
Me: Just a foul bachelor who wants to improve his living conditions.
You: Clean more homes than you can count, and have a general idea of what you do to a typical 2 bedroom place. Start to finish.

Used to have to clean my parents' vacation rentals quickly in between guest stays. Here's some tips:
- Rags are better than paper towels. They let you dig into the grime more.
- If you're doing a bathroom, fill the sink with hot water and add your cleaning agent of choice. Dip rag in there, wring it out, then wipe everything down, with strokes going toward the sink. Pull all the dust/grime into the sink. Once you're done with wet wiping everything down, go over it all again with a dry rag.
- Don't overdo your cleaning agent. Often times it'll take longer to remove the cleaning agent afterwards than it will to clean it in the first place. Softscrub bleach is one of the worst offenders - only use that in showers/the inside of a toilet, otherwise you're going to spend a lot of time picking up the chalk that's in it.
- As far as cleaning agents go, for a general wipedown, vinegar is best, bleach is second best. Don't mix the two, it's a one or the other choice (unless chlorine gas is your thing).
- Get an air purifier. Having one will cut the amount of dust that falls in a room by 50-90%. Less dust means things will appear to stay clean longer.
- Don't get grossed out. Your skin is made to keep the nasty out of your body. You're probably going to touch a little bit of poop or something at some point. Deal with it, you can wash your hands afterwards. If you can't deal with that, get rubber gloves. You can't go at something half assed trying not to get yourself dirty.
1 suggestion though - clean a little often. Spend 10 minutes a day doing it. Pick some stuff up for 5 minutes, get a rag with water/vinegar and wipe down some stuff for the other 5.
How did you learn to clean your house?
Main Post:
Basically, just what the title says. I feel kind of stupid for even having to ask, since I'm in my early 30s, but I wasn't raised in a home where I was made to do chores. I was asked to vacuum or dust from time to time, but my mom did pretty much all of the cleaning.
So I feel like I don't know where to start or what actually needs done to keep a house clean. I do the basics, but inevitably my husband will come around and find something I missed (a lot of times I didn't even think of it until he points it out). So I feel like I'm missing some knowledge I should have my now.
So how did you learn to clean the house beyond basics? What tips or tricks do you have? I've heard to "make a schedule" but I have a hard time doing that because I feel like I don't actually know what should even be on the schedule, other than generically "bathroom" or "kitchen".
Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated. I want to be better at keeping the house than I am now but I don't know where to start.
Top Comment: I genuinely learned so much of my cleaning from the old British reality TV show How Clean is Your House. I discovered it when I was in university and watched it all the time. It's cheesy as hell, but you learn actual great cleaning tips, and the hosts are hilarious. There are a lot of episodes for free on YouTube. Also, it seems like your husband has more experience with cleaning than you do - there is no reason you can't use him as a resource! When he points out something you missed, you can ask him how he would normally clean that area. I think as adults a lot of us can fall into the unhelpful thinking pattern of 'I need to somehow first learn to do this thing, so that when I start doing it I can do it perfectly.' But doing the thing IS learning. Every time you clean you will figure out what works and doesn't work for you, and will add new skills on. Be kind to yourself, and remember that if it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly. Any cleaning is better than no cleaning, and by practicing you will get better every time! As for a cleaning schedule, Pinterest has a lot of free house cleaning templates you can print out. Just look up 'house cleaning schedule', and then you can adapt it to suit your own needs as you figure out what is needed in your particular home.
Subreddit for house cleaning?
Main Post:
I spend a lot of my day cleaning, was wondering if there are any subreddit for others who are responsible for the housework and who have tips, stories, etc.
Top Comment: Not a reddit but I highly recommend checking out Jolie Kerr, who runs "Ask a Clean Person" (blog and podcast now, I think). She's funny! Hope "not a reddit but" replies are OK..
